Land South-West of Godstone Station
Access & Highway Improvements
Vehicle access into the proposed development will be via a new signalised junction with the A22. Footways will be provided on both sides of the access road and will link with the existing footway on the western side of the A22. A pedestrian refuge island is also proposed on the access arm of the junction.
To support the new junction, we are proposing a number of improvements along this stretch of the A22:
- We are proposing that the 30 mph speed limit on the A22 is relocated approximately 200 metres south of its current position just south of the rail bridge. The new location would be to the south of Lagham Park Farm and would be sited on the brow of a hill, thereby offering good visibility of the change in speed limit from 50mph to 30mph.
- We are proposing to improve the footway between Lagham Park Farm and the railway bridge. We could widen the existing footway and / or provide a new footway within the site behind the hedge line, which would separate the footway from traffic.
- The footway becomes very narrow as it passes under the railway bridge. We are therefore proposing to widen the footway under the bridge by reducing the width of the road to a single lane under the bridge, regulated by traffic lights.

A secondary access point for pedestrians and cyclists will also be provided in the north-western part of the site, enabling east-west movements by foot and by bike through the site connecting the station and the village to the residential areas along Terra Cotta Road and Lambs Business Park to the west of the site. Access for emergency vehicles will be provided at this access through the use of removable bollards.

We have had initial pre-planning application advice from Surrey Highways stating that the development would likely be acceptable in principle, subject to supporting sustainable travel modes. This is likely to include making a contribution towards bus services or upgrades at Godstone Station.
